We know that levels of anxiety and depression are on the rise among our camper and staff populations. Many of our staff come to work at camp with pre-existing mental health challenges and for others, the camp environment can be the first place where an issue emerges. Drawing upon the research of Dr. Dan Siegel, interpersonal neuropsychiatrist at UCLA, and his "healthy mind platter", this workshop will explore the 7 essential mental activities needed for optimal functioning and how they show up at camp (sleep, play, downtime, physical time, time-in, focus-time, connecting time). You will come away with a staff self-care assessment tool that can be used in staff training as well as a look at how we as camp administrators can design camp systems and structures to support optimal staff self-care.
